Training: By any other name...
By Nola Carr

ntuitively companies know there is value to training. However, owners, managers and employees alike find it hard to articulate, justify and set aside resources for training needs. Perhaps if we called it by another name, any other name, it would be easier to swallow.

What if it was called “Knowledge Loss Prevention”? That is exactly what it is if your company is dealing with succession, turnovers or retirements. Employees leave and take valuable skills and information with them. If you want to minimize stress (yours and your employees), minimize business interruption to clients, and minimize lost productivity Knowledge Loss Prevention (A.K.A. training) is key. Quickly re-establishing a knowledgeable worker to a position will save money.

Miek’s Dime    By Miek Gall

This month, Miek’s Dime is aimed toward a different Virus, the common grimy desktop keyboard.

According to a recent University of Arizona study the typical office computer has 400 times more bacteria than the average toilet seat. According to the study, a telephone receiver has 25,127 germs, a keyboard 3,295 germs, and computer mouse with 1,676 germs are the most heavily contaminated devices in the workplace. This condition is a key variable in the high rate of sickness in the workplace and has been under study for several years now by some the top agencies in the world.

How to clean a Keyboard
First, shutdown your PC and remove the main plug, unplug the keyboard (remember which socket) and hold it upside down to release any debris from in-between the keys (pressing the keys is a good way to release it).

If you have a can of compressed air then use it to blow any debris from around and under the keys, if not then use the hose of a vacuum cleaner to remove it.

Now take a antibacterial cleaning cloth and fold it to clean the sides of the keys.

After cleaning the sides of the keys take your Antibacterial cleaning cloth & give the surface of the keyboard & Mouse a good wipe over using the cloth to trace the contours of the keys.  When the keyboard & mouse are dry give them a wipe down with a clean lint free rag.

Sirius Solutions Recommends:
